Tuning is ubiquitous, but mods rarely add resale value

Volkswagen Golf R (Mk7) · buying-advice

A large share of the cars in this corpus carry APR, Cobb, Unitronic, IE or GIAC software, and commenters treat a Stage 1 flash (roughly 350-370 hp) as near-free performance. Yet auction results repeatedly show modifications returning little or nothing at sale: an extensive HPA-built Mk6 failed to sell near stock money, and a ~485 hp receipt-heavy 2016 build brought only modestly more than clean stock cars.
