Chassis identity: C208/A208, C-class underpinnings, and body years

Buyers are frequently confused because the CLK looks like a W210 E-class coupe but is built on C-class underpinnings; the coupe is the C208 and the cabriolet the A208. The CLK55 arrived for 2001 as a coupe only, with the cabriolet added for 2002, and 2003 began the next (W209) generation.
