Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 / 2.5-16 Cosworth (W201)

The Cosworth-head W201 (190E 2.3-16, 2.5-16 and the EVO I/II homologation specials) is treated by the BaT community as a serious enthusiast's Mercedes and the great rival to the E30 M3, yet one that has long traded at a discount the commenters find hard to justify. Regular 2.3-16 and 2.5-16 examples move roughly in the low-teens to high-$40k range depending on mileage, originality, manual-vs-automatic and condition, while the DTM-homologation EVO I and EVO II cars are in a different universe entirely, changing hands from ~$106k for an EVO I to $280k-$432k for the best EVO IIs.

“The reason these cars are less valuable than the contemporary M3 comes down to two words, and two words only… “box flares”. Thanks for coming to my BAT Talk.”ChoonHound · Jan 23 at 5:27 PM
